Isn’t it weird growing up and seeing your parents for who they are? When you really can acknow-how that your Dad and dad are only human beings, just like all of the rest of us? It can be horrifying and disconcerting to realize that they do not have all the answers and, in fact, they are only silly humans.
I recently had to come to this realization when my dad became inappropriately involved with my favorite indoor air quality control specialist. About 10 years ago, my parents got a divorce that seems to make them mutually cheerful. I was good with the change, because I wanted to see my parents prosper. Shortly thereafter, my Dad remarried a great woman. My dad, however, never found a up-to-date partner. Then, a few weeks ago she was over at my house while I had some abrupt heating and cooling drama. There was no cool air emerging from my air vents, despite the fact that the AC was running in the yard. My dad sat patiently while I called the local heating and cooling dealership and arranged for a professional repair appointment to inspect my failing cooling system. When the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C tech knocked on my door, my dad’s boredom instantaneously seemed to disappear. Her eyes lit up like a Christmas tree when she saw this pretty blonde girl carrying a sizable tool box and heading down towards the dirty AC condenser in the backyard. When she was leaving after properly repairing my cooling system, I noticed that my dad was hastily writing something down. A few weeks later, I found out that she had been taking down the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C dealership iphone number off of the labor van. He’s been dating my Heating, Ventilation, and A/C serviceman for 3 weeks now. I guess he’s only human.
