Isn’t it strange growing up and seeing your parents for who they are? When you truly can acknowledge that your mom and dad are only human beings, just like all of the rest of us? It can be frightening and disconcerting to realize that they don’t have all the answers and, in fact, they are only silly humans.
- I recently had to come to this realization when my dad became inappropriately involved with my favorite indoor air quality control specialist.
About 10 years ago, my parents got a divorce that seems to make them mutually happy. I was fine with the change, because I wanted to see my parents prosper. Shortly thereafter, my mom remarried a great guy. My dad, however, never found a new partner. Then, a few weeks ago he was over at my house while I had some abrupt heating and cooling drama. There was no cool air emerging from my air vents, despite the fact that the AC was running in the yard. My dad sat patiently while I called the local heating and cooling dealership and arranged for a professional service appointment to inspect my failing cooling system. When the HVAC tech knocked on my door, my dad’s boredom immediately seemed to disappear. His eyes lit up like a Christmas tree when he saw this pretty blonde girl carrying a huge tool box and heading down towards the dirty AC condenser in the backyard. When she was leaving after properly repairing my cooling system, I noticed that my dad was quickly writing something down. A few weeks later, I found out that he had been taking down the HVAC dealership phone number off of the work van. He’s been dating my HVAC technician for 3 weeks now. I guess he’s only human.
