Earlier this year I moved into a new home, and I couldn’t be happier with the decision that I made, in hindsight.
For a while I was looking to purchase my own house, but it seemed impossible to put in an offer and get a reasonable response from the selling realtor.
Eventually, I gave up and signed on for a year-long lease in a rental house. Now I couldn’t be happier with this decision. I’m not sure that I wanted to stay in this area, and I don’t need to be tied down by a home purchase. There are few things about this region that I’m still not in love with. As much as I love the mild and easy Winters around here, the summers are absolutely brutal. I am grateful that I can get through the winter without having to kill my central heating system, but I worry a lot about the summer times and operating my massive air conditioning unit. Because the outdoor climate here is hot and humid for at least eight months out of the year, people rely heavily on their indoor cooling systems. If you don’t have a powerful air conditioning unit, it can be dangerous to live in this environment. That’s why I have apparently been using my air conditioning system rather heavily the whole time I’ve lived here. A few mornings ago my AC unit broke down out of the blue. In the absence of my continually running cooling system, I realized something new… I also hate the birds that live in this area. Without my AC condenser to scare them away, a dozen screeching animals jarred me awake first thing in the morning. The sounds were tremendous. I guess there’s another reason for always running your AC around here, obnoxious wildlife.
